Changes to Year 1 PE day (from wb 24/2/2020)

This Half Term our PE day is Wednesday. Year 1 children will be supported by NUFC coach.

All children are expected to do PE unless they have a medical note. Please ensure that their kit is labelled and stored in a drawstring bag. PE kit is: red T-shirt, black or blue shorts and trainers/plimsolls. It should be left in school for the half term. Our policy states that children are not allowed to wear earrings during PE lessons. They can be covered by a plaster by an adult at home as school staff are not allowed to remove or cover them.

Water Bottle

We encourage children to drink water throughout the day. Please ensure that their bottle is correctly labelled, washed daily and refilled with fresh water. Juice is not permitted.

Safer Internet Day

During Safer Internet Day we have been exploring 'identity online'. We have completed different activities and played a Kahoot Game.

We have started learning about Kenya. We will be focusing on differences and similarities between the village where we live (near Durham) and a small village in Kenya.

Welcome to Spring Term!

We have started a new year with lots of exciting activities. We are exploring our 'Everyday Materials' Science topic. We have lots of fun and learn new, interesting facts. Look around your house, search for some objects and figure out what they are made from.

Ready! Steady! Christmas!

Durham Castle

During our educational visit to Durham Castle the children have explored different aspects of History. They have had the opportunity to learn about the castle and what have been happening to it over time. We all have had an amazing time there and we would recommend visiting this castle to our friends and families.

Anti-bullying Week

We know how to keep our hearts healthy!

Thank you for joining in!

Plants through Forest Schools

The children have had a wonderful time completing their Forest Schools block. Here are the fabulous experiences they have had in the forest.

They have:

*used the leaves to identify trees

*thought about deciduous and evergreen trees

*completed hunts around the forest and sensory garden to find wild plants and garden plants

*investigated the different parts of a plant using real plants and then created a giant plant using the woodland fall

*made lavender pouches

*made grass heads

*made 'eggy toasts' on fire

What an amazing opportunity to explore outdoor learning!

Our Local Area

We have been learning about our local area on Geography lessons when we have been using aerial photographs, Google maps, atlases and globes. The children have presented some excellent location skills. We have been exploring the school grounds and sharing our knowledge about the surroundings.

Harvest Festival

We celebrated Harvest Festival at St Giles' Church today. It was a great opportunity for singing, praying and decorating the church with baskets of food.

Lovely performance Year 1!

Our First Forest School Session

We went on a ‘Tree Hunt’ around the forest. What a fabulous afternoon!

Meet the teacher afternoon

Thank you everyone for joining us! We have had an exciting afternoon and we have been decorating leaves to then put them up on our 'changing seasons' tree in our classroom. The children have been showing parents around and looked so proud of their work completed so far. smiley
