Spring Term

Happy New Year!

This Spring Term our topic is Life in Britain from the Vikings to 1066.

The Vikings were fierce warriors from Scandinavia, an area in Northern Europe. They were most powerful in the years 790AD - 1100AD.

During this term we will be learning lots about what life was like during the Viking period and locating many places in which the Vikings invaded.

Autumn Topic

Our topic this Autumn Term is about the Ancient Egyptians.

The story of Ancient Egypt has survived for thousands of years. Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations of the past. The monuments and tombs of their Pharaohs continue to stand intact today, some 4,000 years later!

In History we will be learning about what life was like in Ancient Egypt, mummification and who Tutankhamun was. We will also investigate into finding out how King Tutankhamun really died.

In Geography we will be using different maps to locate Egypt, gain an understanding to why Egypt has a different climate to the UK and looking at physical and human features of Egypt.

This years theme was Change Starts with Us. In Year 4, we looked at different scenarios and thought about what we would change about the person’s behaviour to make the situation better. We decided to make pledges to make sure our school is always a happy place.

We have had a great morning celebrating Multi Faith day. We created Rangoli patterns which Hindus create to welcome visitors into their homes. We concentrated on creating symmetrical patterns and shapes.

We also created a class prayer which was read during our Collective Worship on Remembrance Day.

Mummification Experiment

We have had a great afternoon learning about the mummification process in ancient Egypt.

We prepared our pharaoh’s body by taking out the important organs and putting them in our canonic jars. We then prepared the body with our homemade natron solution to help preserve the body. Finally we stuffed and wrapped our pharaoh’s body to ensure it didn’t rot.
