Welcome to Year 4. This year your teacher will be Miss Scott and support staff will be Mrs White. You will also be taught Science, French and Music by Mrs Deadman. We are all very excited to work with you all and look forward to the progress that you make.

World Book Day
We had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day. We shared our favourite stories, had a scavenger word hunt and enjoyed a brilliant pantomime. Year 4 all looked amazing in their costumes too.
Dr Seuss Day
In celebration of Dr Seuss Day we decided to design a new hat for cat and recreate Thing 1’s hair. We used various painting techniques including pointillism and bubble effects.
Chinese New Year
In celebration of Chinese New Year on Saturday 25th January 2020, we created our own Chinese lanterns. We discussed similarities and differences between the Chinese New Year and our traditional New Year. We also talked about the importance of wealth and happiness which are two very important words throughout the celebrations.
Martin Luther King Day
We learned about the impact Martin Luther King had on society in America and discussed the meaning of segregation and equality. Afterwards, we created our own ‘I have a dream’ speeches explaining what we want to change with the world to make it a better place to live.
Restart a Heart with NUFC
We had a very informative session with NUFC teaching us the different steps involved in for restarting a heart. We learned how to do CPR and use a defibrillator. 💓
Happy New Year!
This Spring Term our topic is Life in Britain from the Vikings to 1066.
The Vikings were fierce warriors from Scandinavia, an area in Northern Europe. They were most powerful in the years 790AD - 1100AD.
During this term we will be learning lots about what life was like during the Viking period and locating many places in which the Vikings invaded.
Our topic this Autumn Term is about the Ancient Egyptians.
The story of Ancient Egypt has survived for thousands of years. Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations of the past. The monuments and tombs of their Pharaohs continue to stand intact today, some 4,000 years later!
In History we will be learning about what life was like in Ancient Egypt, mummification and who Tutankhamun was. We will also investigate into finding out how King Tutankhamun really died.
In Geography we will be using different maps to locate Egypt, gain an understanding to why Egypt has a different climate to the UK and looking at physical and human features of Egypt.
Gymnastics with Marie-Claire
This Autumn half term Year 4 have learned various skills from Marie-Claire which has contributed towards their partner work in Gymnastics. We have learned different ways to travel and balance with our partners.
An Afternoon at Durham City Gymnastics Club
We had a great time at Durham City Gymnastics Club, learning new skills to help us with our current gymnastics topic this term.
Morning at Belmont Comprehensive
We had great fun at Belmont, learning how to play basketball in P.E. and creating different types of prints in art.
Children In Need
St Hild’s decided to have a pyjama day to raise money for Children In Need. We also had a cake sale and a drawing competition.
Anti Bullying Week
This years theme was Change Starts with Us. In Year 4, we looked at different scenarios and thought about what we would change about the person’s behaviour to make the situation better. We decided to make pledges to make sure our school is always a happy place.
Multi Faith Day
We have had a great morning celebrating Multi Faith day. We created Rangoli patterns which Hindus create to welcome visitors into their homes. We concentrated on creating symmetrical patterns and shapes.
Lest We Forget
In Year 4 we have been learning about the importance of the poppy and why we need to wear them. We decided to create our own poppies and write messages to fallen soldiers and to those who have sad memories at this time of the year. We also created a class prayer which was read during our Collective Worship on Remembrance Day.
We have had a great afternoon learning about the mummification process in ancient Egypt.
We prepared our pharaoh’s body by taking out the important organs and putting them in our canonic jars. We then prepared the body with our homemade natron solution to help preserve the body. Finally we stuffed and wrapped our pharaoh’s body to ensure it didn’t rot.
We had a great day celebrating the new launch of Numbots as well as our achievements in Times Tables Rockstars 🎸🌟
Jump Rope for Heart Day
Year 4 showed off their skills with a jump rope, to raise awareness for the British Heart Foundation. We also created a healthy heart poster to help people understand what we need to do to keep our hearts healthy and strong.
A Kickabout with NUFF
This half term, Year 4 have had the opportunity to learn about healthy eating as well as developing their striking and fielding skills with Newcastle United Football Foundation.
Quicksticks Hockey Festival at Maiden Castle
Year 4 had a great time at Maiden Castle, where they learned various hockey skills and even played in a mini tournament with other schools.
Zumba Morning with Gemma
We had a great start to the morning, learning some fun Zumba moves, ready for the day ahead.
Year 4 had a great morning cooking with Egyptian ingredients and looking at Egyptian artefacts.
Hello Yellow Day
We had a great afternoon talking about feelings and emotions and how to deal with them in different situations, for Mental Health Awareness Day.
