Year 4

Welcome to Year 4

This term, our whole school topic is "From the Stone Age to the Iron Age". Throughout this topic, we will be learning about how hunter-gatherers survived in the stone age as well as what life was like in an Iron Hill Fort. We will also be finding out about Skara Brae as well as where hill forts are located.

We will be working on our Gymnastic skills with Mrs Davie from the SSP in the first part of our Spring Term on a Friday. Please come to school wearing your full PE kit ready for PE every week.

Homework will be sent home every Friday and should be returned to school by the following Wednesday. Remember to access our online learning programmes at home as often as you can too. See if you can get to the top of the leader board.

As always, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us.

Unplugged Coding Afternoon

We looked into conditional statements which instruct computers on the decision to make when given some conditions. We used rock, paper, scissors to help us understand this. We then thought of our own conditional statements to see what the outcomes were.

You all thought of some fantastic conditional statements which I hope you can share with your family!

How did hunter-gatherers survive in the Stone Age?

For our Stone Age topic, we investigated how hunter-gatherers survived in the Stone Age. We explored the different threats and assets they faced during those times. We then transported ourselves, into the Stone Age era and explored our KS2 yard to see what assets we could find that would help us survive during the Stone Age.

Inter-faith Week

We had a very exciting afternoon to celebrate Inter-Faith week.

The religion we explored this afternoon was Hinduism. We found out how Hindu families pray and worship.

We learned some interesting facts about who Hindus pray to as well as how they pray. We also looked at objects from home which are used during Puja.

We then further explored what Puja is and what is the importance of the objects during Puja.

Thanks for sharing your religion with us, we had a brilliant afternoon! 🌟

Maths Week

We had a fantastic week celebrating Maths Week. Mr Grant set us really tricky maths problems at the start of the week and then on Friday we had to complete an exciting maths trail which involved lots of riddles and puzzles. We managed to crack the challenges in the end and find all the clues.

Well done Class 4, you did a brilliant job! 🌟

Remembrance Day

We have been learning about what Remembrance Day is and why we wear poppies leading up to the day. We then created our own poppies and wrote messages about what we are thankful for during this time and what we will be remembering during our 2 minute silence.

European Day of Languages

We have had a fantastic week celebrating European Day of Languages! We learnt about what schools in Germany do as well as how to say hello and goodbye in German. We also explored different colours in German and played colour bingo.

Everyone looked brilliant in their flag colours!

Bonfire Night Safety

This afternoon, we learnt about how to have fun but most importantly how to stay safe this bonfire night. You all came up with super tips for how we can stay safe. Well done everyone.💥✨

Anti-Bullying Week/E-Safety #bekindonsocialmedia

This week, we have been learning about what bullying is and how it can be seen online as well.

We learnt different ways for how to be safe online and what we can do if we see bullying both online and face to face.

Class 4 then came up with an Anti-Bullying Pledge to ensure St Hild's continues to be a safe and happy environment for everyone!

Well done Class 4, your ideas were brilliant! 😊🌟
