Year 4

Welcome to Year 4

This term, our class topic is "Natural Disasters". Throughout this topic, We will be exploring Natural Disasters. Throughout this unit we will be understanding how volcanoes erupt, how earthquakes occur as well as flooding. When exploring the disasters, we will also be looking into the impacts these disasters have on humans too.

 

We will be swimming on a Tuesday this Summer Term so please make sure you bring you swimming short/costume, a towel, a swimming hat (if you have long hair) and goggles (optional) every week.  

 

Homework will be sent home every Friday and should be returned to school by the following Wednesday. Remember to access our online learning programmes at home as often as you can too. See if you can get to the top of the leader board.

We had a fantastic Archery morning with Gareth! Everyone showed incredible teamwork, determination and resilience.

Get Up and Move Week

We have spent 10 minutes every day completing an active activity. We have loved Gemma from SSP’s dance sessions!

 

World Book Day ๐Ÿ“š

We had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day today! Everyone’s costumes were amazing ๐Ÿ˜Š

 

To celebrate, we chose the Twits as our class book for the week. We created guides for how to be clever like Mr and Mrs Twit as well as recreated Mr Twit’s beard using evidence from the text to help us. We also completed various quizzes and word searches which we found exciting but challenging too!

 

We then took ten minutes out of our day to read to ourselves quietly.

Bigfoot e-safety

We had a fantastic session with Lydia from Bigfoot who came to talk to us about how we can stay safe online. We learnt about what malicious content is and how we can prevent it when we go online. In the afternoon, we then came up with ideas to develop the acronym SAFELY to help us remember how we can stay safe online using ideas from Lydia’s session.

 

Your safety rap at the end of the session was brilliant Class 4! ๐ŸŒŸ

Childrenโ€™s Mental Health Week

This week has been children’s mental health week in school and the theme this year was growth.

 

We decided to reflect on the changes that we’ve been through and discussed that we all develop and are able to do things at different ages. We decided to focus on all the amazing things we can do now. We wrote and drew things that we have learnt/achieved about ourselves so far. We also reflected on how our gifts and talents could help ourselves and others.

 

We then created butterflies to make a ‘growing together’ display.

School Safety Week

We had a brilliant afternoon discussing safety and danger as part of school safety week. We then spotted dangers in someone’s house and discussed how we could overcome the dangers to make it safe. Everyone came up with some fantastic ideas!

Unplugged Coding Afternoon

We looked into conditional statements which instruct computers on the decision to make when given some conditions. We used rock, paper, scissors to help us understand this. We then thought of our own conditional statements to see what the outcomes were.

 

You all thought of some fantastic conditional statements which I hope you can share with your family!

 

How did hunter-gatherers survive in the Stone Age?

For our Stone Age topic, we investigated how hunter-gatherers survived in the Stone Age. We explored the different threats and assets they faced during those times. We then transported ourselves, into the Stone Age era and explored our KS2 yard to see what assets we could find that would help us survive during the Stone Age.

James Webb Space Telescope Launch 

We had a great morning yesterday, learning about the James Webb Space Telescope which will be launching on Wednesday 22nd December. To celebrate the launch, we created galaxy space art of what what think the telescope will discover. โœจ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผ‍๐Ÿš€๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ›ฐ๐Ÿ›ธ

Inter-faith Week

We had a very exciting afternoon to celebrate Inter-Faith week.

 

The religion we explored this afternoon was Hinduism. We found out how Hindu families pray and worship.

 

We learned some interesting facts about who Hindus pray to as well as how they pray. We also looked at objects from home which are used during Puja.

 

We then further explored what Puja is and what is the importance of the objects during Puja.

Maths Week

We had a fantastic week celebrating Maths Week. Mr Grant set us really tricky maths problems at the start of the week and then on Friday we had to complete an exciting maths trail which involved lots of riddles and puzzles. We managed to crack the challenges in the end and find all the clues.

Remembrance Day 

We have been learning about what Remembrance Day is and why we wear poppies leading up to the day. We then created our own poppies and wrote messages about what we are thankful for during this time and what we will be remembering during our 2 minute silence.

 

European Day of Languages 

We have had a fantastic week celebrating European Day of Languages! We learnt about what schools in Germany do as well as how to say hello and goodbye in German. We also explored different colours in German and played colour bingo.

Everyone looked brilliant in their flag colours!

Bonfire Night Safety

This afternoon, we learnt about how to have fun but most importantly how to stay safe this bonfire night. You all came up with super tips for how we can stay safe. Well done everyone.๐Ÿ’ฅโœจ

Anti-Bullying Week/E-Safety #bekindonsocialmedia

This week, we have been learning about what bullying is and how it can be seen online as well.

We learnt different ways for how to be safe online and what we can do if we see bullying both online and face to face.

Class 4 then came up with an Anti-Bullying Pledge to ensure St Hild's continues to be a safe and happy environment for everyone!

Well done Class 4, your ideas were brilliant! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐ŸŒŸ

School Council Elections 

What an exciting afternoon we had for our school council elections. All candidates gave fantastic speeches which they should all be proud of! We then voted for who we would like to represent Class 4.

Well done to our new school councilors.

All candidates have received a shine bright for their courage and effort.

Well done everyone! You should all be incredibly proud of yourselves. ๐ŸŒŸ
