Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

This term, our class topic is WWII. We'll find out about the causes of WWII and the impact it had on the lives of everyday people. We'll explore the countries involved and how Europe has changed since war was declared in 1939. We'll research significant historical people and their involvement in the war.

We will be doing gymnastics in PE on a Friday during Term 2a then we'll be doing multiskills on a Thursday during Term 2b so please come to school wearing your full PE kit ready for PE every week.

Homework will continue to be sent home every Friday and should be returned to school by the following Wednesday. Remember to access our online learning programmes at home as often as you can too. See if you can get to the top of the leader board.

As always, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us.

Best wishes

Miss Luke

Mrs Dart and Mrs Roddam

Our whole school focus during Interfaith week was prayer. In Year 6, we found out about the importance of prayer in Islam.

During Maths Day, we took inspiration from the artist Ellsworth Kelly and created our own artwork using geometric shapes.

During Maths Day, Mr Grant set us a challenge. We had to solve riddles to find the clues. Luckily, we managed to find the prize after completing the tricky maths tasks!

We played a handball tournament in PE. The scores were very close and it was really competitive!

The theme of Road Safety Week this year is Road Safety Heroes. We have been considering the different types of people who are Road Safety Heroes and thinking about how we can all play a part in making journeys safer for everyone.

We worked with Aaron from AE Coaching in PE this half term. We've played lots of different games and developed our attacking and defending skills.

Our RE topic is called, "What does it mean if God is holy and loving?" We created artwork to reflect our ideas.

During Great Big Green Week, we wrote letters to the Prime Minister, explaining how we feel that something needs to be done to combat plastic pollution. We received a reply from his Communications Officer!

We enjoyed Harvest Festival. Thank you to everyone for your kind food donations for Durham Food Bank.

We learned some simple sign language during Deaf Awareness Week

We celebrated our own individual creativity on Dot Day. We all started with one dot ... look how unique each piece of artwork is!

In RE, we explored the Big Story of the Bible before creating our own version of the Incarnation panel

We held our School Council Elections. Well done to all four of our candidates for delivering such passionate speeches. Congratulations to our two elected Councillors.

Throughout Term 1a, we worked with Mrs Hughes from Durham Music Services every week. We learned songs and used the instruments to create our own tunes, thinking carefully about the beat, tempo and rhythm.
